Circular needles are becoming more and more popular. There are many distinct reasons why! If you have never tried circular needles, read on and find out what benefits you can get from knitting with circulars!
Circular knitting needles such as addi turbo knitting needles balance the weight of your garment evenly on your lap, not in your arms! Wrist action is toned down dramatically due to the weight distribution, thus less strain on your tender joints. In many cases, using circular needles may help and even eliminate symptoms of tendonitis, arthritis and carpel tunnel syndrome that arise while knitting. If you were a straight needle knitter and quit due to wrist or lower arm pain, try knitting with circular needles. If you knit the American method and throw your yarn, try taking a class on the Continental method. This method will eliminate even more wrist/arm action!
Many knitters are concerned that they will have to learn a whole new way of knitting with circular needles. This is not true! Circular needles work just like straights - the same techniques are used, they are simply a different tool which allows knitting to become more relaxing and pleasurable. You can knit back and forth on circulars, just like you did on straight needles if you like; as a matter of fact, most circular needle users do! If you choose to knit in the round, the right side of your work will always be facing you. Thus, if you use a pattern that gives instructions for rows rather than rounds, you will need to do a little adjusting to the stitch pattern. See below for adjusting simple stitch patterns. If you enjoy working with two individual needles but like the benefits of circulars - such as less stress on your wrists, try the addi Turbo® Jumper Flex needles.
