The
Kromski Prelude Spinning Wheel
The Prelude Kromski spinning wheel is
just the spinning wheel for beginners or perhaps a
second Kromski spinning wheel for others. It has
the look of an antique spinning wheel and the high
degree of wood turning that the Kromski's are famous
for, but it also has all the tou
ches
modern spinners expect.
The Prelude spinning wheel is a
single drive spinning wheel. The
Prelude is easy to treadle, easy to transport, and has
an 18" diameter wheel (same as the Kromski
Minstrel) for excellent ratios. If you like, you can
swivel the mother-of-all in line with the bench for a
more compact "package" when moving the wheel
or for storage.
Bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included
includes threading hook, attached Lazy Kate, video
and bottle of spinning wheel oil and two extra drive
bands. Ratios: 6, 10.5, and 13 to 1
•bearings on wheel shaft, bobbins; leather
bearings on flyer weight - 9 lbs.
The
Kromski Symphony Spinning Wheel
This Kromski spinning wheel is fast
and beautiful! The large drive wheel diameter gives
the Symphony spinning wheel lots of momentum. Double
treadles make it easy to use, even for a beginner, and
comfortable even for long spinning sessions. One of my
favorites!
This kromski spinning wheel has the
details spinners have come to expect with Kromski
products - lots of finely turned wood, attention to
detail, and all the features spinners ask for. Start
with a good size wheel diameter - 24" - that
rotates on bearing sleeves that contribute to
effortless treadling. The flyer is double drive
but also has Scotch tensioning for single drive use
(at no additional charge). The bobbins will hold a
full 4 oz.of yarn and they fit on all the other
Kromski spinning wheels.
The Symphony spinning
wheel is made of European alder and birch. No Kromski
spinning wheel has any plastic parts and as such makes
the perfect wheel for reenactors. Additional
specifications:
• wheel diameter - 24" • orifice height
- 27"; size - 3/8"
• bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included -
• also includes threading hook, tensioned Kate and
bottle of spinning wheel oil

The
Kromski Minstrel
Spinning Wheel
The Kromski Minstrel spinning wheel
features a wide, steady base for the double treadle
operation and the wheel, which is larger than many
upright wheels - 18". The Minstrel spinning wheel
is easy to mount on the two support posts. The third
post will mount an optional distaff.
Larger than the Kromski Mazurka, the
Minstrel spinning wheel has stronger, bolder lines and
a larger base to accommodate the larger wheel diameter
and the double treadles. It is a double drive wheel
but comes standard with Scotch tension set-up if your
prefer the single drive feel. A threading hook and
extra whorl are conveniently stored up front for easy
access.

The
Kromski Polonaise Spinning Wheel
The Polonaise spinning wheel has the look of wheels
from the Baltic area of Poland and Scandinavia. In
fact, a well known spinning wheel historian has said
that the manner in which this wheel is built is as
close to being historically correct as he has seen.
This will be a plus for spinners wanting the
"real thing" and for the growing community
of re-enactors. The amount of decorative turning on
this wheel is substantial, making it a sight to
behold. The pictures above and below show a Polonaise
with the Kromski mahogany finish. The level of detail
and turning is breathtaking. Notice the marblin
g
of the wood grain that is highlighted by the stain and
finish. No other wheel being made today comes close to
this level of detail. A spinner could pay
substantially more for other wheels and still not have
the beauty of a Kromski spinning wheel. This wheel is
a great value and it spins as well as it looks.
The Polonaise spinning
wheel features functional wood threaded wheel angle
adjustments so the proper angle can be obtained with
the flyer. “Pin and socket” bearings support the
wheel, offering low friction and exceptional ease of
treadling. All of the wheel hardware sits between the
wheel posts and the footman passes through the bench
to the treadle. The Polonaise spinning wheel is made
with European alder and birch and comes standard with
double drive and scotch tensioning. Additional
specifications:
• wheel diameter - 24"
orifice height - 25"; size - 3/8"
• bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included
• also includes threading hook, tensioned Kate and
bottle of spinning wheel oil
• Ratios: 8, 12, 16 and 20 to 1; 2 whorls included

The Kromski
Story...
Life on the western plains of Poland can be hard.
In 1918, just after WWI, Leon Kromski began turning
wood and soon became his town’s spinning wheel
fixer. Between the two world wars, prospects were few
so in fact Leon did many things to support his family,
but turning was something he did well. Before and
after WWII, he taught woodturning to his son, also
named Leon. Following the second war, life under the
communists offered few improvements and the Kromski
family struggled as did many to seek success and good
fortune. In the ’60s, Leon Kromski, the younger,
designed a new spinning wheel that won him recognition
throughout Poland. His wheel, a first version of the
Mazurka, was selected to be sold in government stores
that supported Polish folk arts and crafts. However,
because they were operating a family business, not a
government operation, the Kromski's were held back.
They were not allowed to get too ambitious for fear
that their woodworking business would prosper and thus
they were limited in the number of wheels they could
produce. Hard work and persistence eventually paid off
however; with the fall of communism and the rise of a
free-market in Poland, the Kromski's are finally able
to begin to fulfill their dreams. Today, Leon, with
his sons Wojciech and Daniel have their sights set on
Poland and beyond. With Wojciech’s background in
forestry and wood products, Daniel’s in art and
design, this new generation of Polish artisans intends
to place their products before people around the
world. For today’s spinners and weavers, the
Kromski's manufacture attractive-looking and
well-engineered products and they stand behind each
with a five year warranty covering their
craftsmanship. Kromski wheels are affordable and make
it easy to learn spinning.
